Chief Minister Orders Immediate Action on Potholes and Traffic Jams on Thane-Nashik, Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highways
Mumbai : Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has taken serious note of the potholes and traffic jams plaguing highways in the Thane, Palghar, Nashik, and Raigad districts. He has directed officials from the National Highways Authority, MSRDC, Public Works Department, and Traffic Police to expedite repairs on the Thane-Nashik and Mumbai-Ahmedabad highways. The Chief Minister emphasized the use of Rapid Quick Hardener and M60 technology to provide immediate relief to citizens. He also instructed urgent repairs on the Nashik-Bhiwandi road, warning against any delays.
The Chief Minister chaired a meeting at the Sahyadri Guest House, attended by key officials, including Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. I.S. Chahal, Principal Secretary Brijesh Singh, and Konkan Divisional Commissioner P. Velarasu, among others. The meeting also included virtual participation from the Collectors of Thane, Nashik, and Raigad, as well as Police and Traffic Police officers.
The poor condition of the Nashik-Bhiwandi road, exacerbated by the rainy season, has been causing significant traffic issues and accidents. The Chief Minister expressed strong displeasure over the situation and ordered that repairs begin immediately with a focus on quality and speed. He directed the National Highways Authority to use modern technology for filling potholes, such as Rapid Quick Setting Hardener and M60, to reduce traffic congestion and provide relief to citizens. He also stated that cases should be filed against anyone obstructing the repair work.
To manage the heavy traffic from JNPT, the Chief Minister ordered an increase in the number of traffic wardens and the regulation of heavy vehicles to prevent further congestion. He appointed the Thane Collector as the Nodal Officer for coordinating these efforts. Additionally, the Chief Minister instructed that parking lots be created at Sonale, Padgha, and Asangaon on the Nashik highway for heavy vehicles, and directed the Konkan Divisional Commissioner to issue a notification suspending heavy traffic during peak hours. Daily progress reports on the repairs and related activities were also mandated.
