Domestic Violence Week 2025 – Awareness Programme On Violence Against Women Held
Aizawl, Nov 2025:The State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW), under the Directorate of Women & Child Development, today organized an awareness programme on violence against women at the Mizoram Assembly House Annex Conference Hall, marking Domestic Violence Week 2025. With the theme “Empowering Women – Last Mile Delivery of Service”, the programme also launched the 16-Day Campaign on Ending Gender-Based Violence (25th November – 10th December).
Pi Zonunthari, Joint Secretary, Social Welfare, Women & Child Development Department, graced the event as Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Pi Zonunthari stated that violence against women is not merely an issue of women’s rights but a violation of basic human rights. Highlighting the alarming rise of violence against women across the world, she stressed the importance of such awareness programmes for the general public and emphasized empowering women so they can understand their rights, access proper support, and receive timely justice. She added that effective handling of child-related cases is also essential in addressing violence against women.
The awareness session was chaired by Pi Sailopari, Joint Director, WCD, SWW & CDD, who delivered welcome remarks.
Pi Lalnunmawii Varte, Core Faculty, ATI, conducted a session on the topic “Understanding Gender-Based Violence and Its Impacts.”
Another discussion focusing on skill development, prevention of gender-based violence, legal access, and service linkages was chaired by Pi Flora Laltanpuii, Deputy Director (Women), WCD.
Several officials and experts addressed the participants, including:

- Pi Priscilla Lallawmsangi, Legal Officer, Mizoram State Commission for Protection of Child Rights

- Pu C. Lalnghakliana, Research Officer, Planning & Programme Implementation Department (Bana Kaih)
- Pi Lalrinhlui Sailo, OSD & Nodal Officer (Training Centres), Directorate of Social Welfare, SW, W&CD Department
Representatives from several organizations also participated, including Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), Single Moms’ Foundation, Street Vendors (UD&PA), domestic workers, and various government departments. Special participation came from groups such as the Association of Theologically Trained Women of India (ATTWI), Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), Lai Women Association (LWA), and others.
