Grafted Brinjal Technique Empowers Adjal Farmer Santosh Economically

Raipur, Dec 2025: The grafted brinjal technique promoted by the Horticulture Department has brought a remarkable change in the life of Santosh Kumar, a farmer from Adjal village, Daondi block, Balod. With technical guidance and support from the department, he adopted modern grafted brinjal cultivation, earning up to ₹5 lakh from just one acre of land.

Earlier, Santosh grew traditional kharif paddy, which gave insufficient returns and often left the land underutilized. Learning about the department’s schemes that provide hybrid plants and seeds on subsidy, he decided to switch to grafted brinjal.

On his one-acre field, he planted 30,000 grafted brinjal saplings. Once production began, not only did fresh vegetables become regularly available at home, but his economic condition strengthened significantly.

So far, Santosh has produced around 250 quintals of brinjal. At a current market rate of ₹20–25 per kg, his grafted brinjal cultivation on one acre generated approximately ₹5 lakh in income.

Santosh Kumar said that by leveraging the Horticulture Department’s scheme, he now earns higher income and has overcome his family’s financial challenges.
