Denmark handed Over First F-16 Fighter Jets to Argentina.

Buenos Aires; December 2025: Denmark is in the midst of a generational change in its fighter fleet, with F-16 fighters being phased out in favour of the F-35. As a result, 24 F-16 fighters have been sold to Argentina, and the first 06 aircraft are now being transferred. The transfer of the aircraft will take place on an ongoing basis until 2028, with 06 aircrafts will be delivered per year until 2028.

Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen, who has traveled to Argentina to participate in a ceremony where the first 06 of a total of 24 Danish F-16 fighter aircraft are handed over to the Argentine Air Force have said,

I am pleased that we can transfer our F-16 fighter aircraft to Argentina. The fighter aircraft have been a solid part of the Danish Air Force both nationally and internationally. I hope that they will serve Argentina as well as they have served Denmark. With the sale, we are not only strengthening

the Argentine air defence, we are also strengthening the strong defence cooperation

between Argentina and Denmark”.

The F-35 fighter jets will take over operational tasks when the F-16 fighter jets are taken out of operational service in early 2026. This also applies to the rejection readiness.

The sale of the F-16 fighter jets underlines the good cooperation between Denmark and Argentina in the field of defence. Therefore, Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen will also meet with high-ranking representatives from the Argentine government, where a strengthened partnership and cooperation is on the agenda.

And to further strengthen cooperation with Argentina, Denmark has decided to reopen the Danish embassy in Argentina. Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen have reiterated,

“Denmark and Argentina not only have a strong partnership and cooperation for more than 100 years, we also have a strong friendship. We emphasise this by reopening a Danish embassy in Argentina, which can, among other things, help strengthen cooperation between our defence ministries

and our defence industries. Because as countries, we have a common goal: to take

for our security, freedom and democracy. It is obvious to work together”.

During the visit, the Minister of Defence will also participate in a ceremony where he will be appointed an honorary citizen of Buenos Aires.
