Government Preparing Master Plan for Development of Twin Capital Cities: Chief Minister Pema Khandu

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced on Friday that the State government is developing a master plan for the long-term growth of the twin capital cities, Itanagar and Naharlagun. Speaking at the inauguration of a drinking water supply project at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Naharlagun, Khandu revealed that the plan will focus on enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the State capital and improving colony roads. The new water supply project will significantly increase the institute’s capacity from 200,000 to 1.9 million liters per day, ensuring a more reliable water source.

“This forward-looking project underscores our dedication to improving infrastructure and services in the capital region,” Khandu stated on X (formerly Twitter). He also mentioned plans for a super specialty complex at TRIHMS and the establishment of a state cancer institute in Midpu. The master plan will prioritize beautification efforts in Itanagar and Naharlagun and the upgrading of colony roads, he added in another social media post.

Khandu congratulated TRIHMS and expressed appreciation to the Itanagar Smart City Mission and the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) for their contributions to the project. “Congratulations to TRIHMS, and thanks to the Itanagar Smart City Mission and PHED for making this important project a reality,” Khandu said, emphasizing that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to advancing infrastructure and services in the capital region.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several ministers and officials, including Mama Natung, Balo Raja, Biyuram Wahge, MLA Techi Kaso, and Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor Tame Phassang.
