Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya Agriculture Scheme Transforms Farmers’ Lives
Raipur, Dec 2025 – The Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya Agriculture Scheme (PMDDKY), launched for 2025-26, aims to increase the income and productivity of 1.7 crore farmers across 100 low-performing agricultural districts by coordinating 36 schemes from 11 ministries. The scheme focuses on irrigation, storage, easy credit, and crop diversification to empower farmers and make them self-reliant.
Highly Beneficial for Farmers
In Jashpur district, an agriculture-focused region, the PMDDKY under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership has proven extremely beneficial for farmers. Due to Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai’s agriculture-oriented policies and rapid implementation of schemes in the state, farmers are receiving wide-ranging support, including modern technology, better seeds, irrigation assistance, and continuous guidance from the Agriculture Department. This has enabled farmers to achieve higher production at lower costs. Among the direct beneficiaries is Mr. Sudhir Lakda (Uraon) from the Bagicha development block.
Improvement in Productivity
Mr. Sudhir Lakda owns 3.4 hectares of land and has benefited from various government schemes over time. Under the ATMA scheme, he received support for the summer maize program, tractors, and agricultural equipment through DMF funds, while the Solar Sujala scheme provided solar irrigation facilities, making his farming more cost-effective and efficient. With support from the Agriculture Department, he adopted modern farming techniques, leading to improved productivity.
Increase in Farmer Income
The local agricultural extension officer advised Mr. Lakda to cultivate pre-seed grade maize instead of rice under the PMDDKY. Using 8 kg of maize seeds provided free by the department, he sowed 0.4 hectares and, with proper care, nutrients, pesticides, and technical guidance, achieved a production of about 10 quintals, generating an income of approximately ₹15,000.
Promotion of Modern Agricultural Techniques
The PMDDKY has boosted crop production, improved irrigation facilities, enhanced storage capacity, and encouraged the use of modern agricultural technologies. The scheme strengthens self-reliance in grains, pulses, and oilseeds, while promoting mechanization, organic farming, and doubling farmers’ incomes.
Enhancing Crop Quality
Mr. Lakda shares that the scheme has transformed his farming practices. Training, advanced seeds, and timely advice from the department have improved crop quality. He credits the scheme initiated by Prime Minister Modi and supported by Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai for significantly increasing his income.
Focus on Agriculture-Based Employment
The PMDDKY aims to modernize and strengthen agriculture while doubling farmers’ incomes by 2030. Measures under the scheme include increasing production by 20–30% through quality seeds and techniques, promoting self-reliance in grains, pulses, and oilseeds, reducing monsoon dependency through drip and sprinkler irrigation, expanding storage capacity to minimize post-harvest losses to 5%, and promoting organic farming and mechanization. The scheme also emphasizes connecting women and youth to agriculture-based employment through dairy, fishery, and poultry activities.
