Modi, Zelenskyy Discuss Expanding India-Ukraine Partnership at G7 Summit

Evian, June 2026 : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown strong interest in deepening mutually beneficial relations between India and Ukraine, highlighting significant opportunities for cooperation across a range of sectors.

The two leaders held talks on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, where they reviewed ongoing bilateral initiatives and explored ways to strengthen economic and industrial ties between their countries.

Speaking after the meeting, Zelenskyy said India and Ukraine were already working together on several projects and possessed substantial untapped potential for future collaboration. He noted that discussions focused on enhancing the effectiveness of existing initiatives while identifying new areas where the two nations could work together.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Ukrainian President said Prime Minister Modi was keen on building a stronger partnership with Ukraine and recognised the benefits such cooperation could bring to the people of both countries. Zelenskyy added that both sides discussed a number of promising industrial ventures and other projects that could be implemented jointly in the coming years.

According to Zelenskyy, teams from India and Ukraine will now engage in detailed discussions to advance these proposals and translate them into concrete outcomes. The move reflects a shared commitment to broadening bilateral engagement despite challenging global circumstances.

The meeting assumes added significance as Ukraine seeks to expand and diversify its international economic partnerships while continuing to deal with the consequences of the ongoing conflict with Russia. Kyiv has been actively reaching out to key global economies to strengthen trade, investment and industrial cooperation.

India, for its part, has maintained a balanced approach towards the Russia-Ukraine conflict, consistently advocating dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful resolution. At the same time, New Delhi has continued to explore opportunities for economic engagement with Ukraine and has expressed support for initiatives that contribute to stability and development.

Before the outbreak of the war, India and Ukraine enjoyed robust trade relations, particularly in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, machinery and defence-related sectors. Although the conflict disrupted supply chains and impacted bilateral commerce, both leaders indicated a clear willingness to revive and expand economic cooperation.

The discussions in Evian underscore India’s pragmatic foreign policy approach, combining support for peace and humanitarian concerns with efforts to strengthen economic partnerships and explore new avenues of collaboration with Ukraine.
