Kopra Reservoir Declared Chhattisgarh’s First Ramsar Site, a Moment of Pride – CM Vishnu Dev Sai
Raipur, Dec 2025 – Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai stated that the declaration of Bilaspur district’s Kopra Reservoir as Chhattisgarh’s first Ramsar site is a moment of immense pride and honor for the entire state. This achievement signifies global recognition of the state’s rich biodiversity, diverse bird habitats, and sustained water conservation efforts.
CM Sai appreciated and thanked the combined efforts of the State Wetlands Authority, environmental experts, researchers, and local communities, noting that their coordinated collaboration ensured that Kopra Reservoir met international standards, earning this historic recognition for Chhattisgarh.
He added that the Ramsar designation of Kopra Reservoir is a significant and inspiring step toward the goal under the “Chhattisgarh Anjor Vision 2047” to declare 20 wetlands in the state as Ramsar sites by 2030. This milestone strengthens the state’s environmental conservation policies and long-term vision.
The Chief Minister highlighted that this global recognition will promote eco-tourism in the state, creating new local employment opportunities. It will also enhance public awareness about wetland conservation and serve as a landmark in protecting natural resources for future generations.
CM Sai appealed to citizens to play an active role in safeguarding, conserving, and nurturing this invaluable natural heritage, emphasizing that protecting nature is not only the government’s responsibility but a collective societal duty.
