India Provides 250,000 Saline Bottles to Support Dehydrated Patients in Peru

Lima, Dec 2025 : India has delivered 250,000 bottles of physiological saline to Peru to aid patients suffering from dehydration, reaffirming its role as a dependable development partner for the South American nation. The donation was handed over by Indian Ambassador to Peru Vishvas Sapkal to Peru’s Ministry of Health on Friday (local time).

Senior Peruvian officials, including Alberto Tejada Conroy, Director General, International Cooperation, Eric Vasquez Calderon, Joint Director, National Centre for the Supply of Strategic Health Resources (CENARES), and Abel Cardenas, Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, warmly appreciated India’s timely assistance.

This shipment was part of a larger 32-tonne humanitarian aid consignment sent by India, highlighting its solidarity with Global South partners. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the move as a gesture of care and cooperation, stating that the consignment would directly support patients facing dehydration across Peru.

India and Peru share traditionally cordial relations, marked by multifaceted bilateral cooperation. Areas of collaboration span health and pharmaceuticals, energy and mining, textiles, agriculture, science and technology, defence, space, capacity building, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Both nations also work closely on multilateral platforms, reinforcing their strong diplomatic engagement.

The humanitarian aid delivered to Peru is consistent with India’s ongoing support to Global South countries. In 2023, India provided 1,000 vials of Human Immunoglobulin to Peru to address rising cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. More recently, last month, India dispatched 10,000 doses of rabies vaccine and 2,000 vials of rabies immunoglobulin to Timor-Leste, demonstrating its commitment to urgent health interventions.

Through these initiatives, India emphasizes its role as a trusted health partner and reliable “First Responder” for countries in the Global South. The MEA has consistently highlighted India’s dedication to delivering timely medical and humanitarian assistance, ensuring that developing nations can access essential healthcare support during emergencies.

The latest delivery of saline solution is expected to significantly ease the burden on Peruvian hospitals and healthcare facilities, particularly for patients suffering from severe dehydration due to illness or other medical conditions. It underscores the practical impact of India’s global health diplomacy and its proactive approach to humanitarian assistance.

India’s continued engagement with Peru reflects a long-standing commitment to building strong, mutually beneficial partnerships in South America while supporting sustainable development and health resilience in the region.

Team Maverick.
