Plane Crash in Central Mexico Kills Six

Mexico City, Dec 2025 : At least six people were killed on Monday after a small private aircraft crashed in the municipality of San Mateo Atenco in Mexico’s central State of Mexico, according to local authorities. The tragic incident occurred in an industrial zone not far from Toluca International Airport, a major aviation hub in the Toluca Valley.

Adrian Hernandez Romero, coordinator of the State of Mexico’s civil protection agency, said the aircraft was carrying 10 people, including the pilot and co-pilot. While the jet was registered with eight passengers and two crew members, authorities had recovered only seven bodies several hours after the crash. The identities of the victims had not yet been confirmed.

Preliminary information suggests that the aircraft attempted an emergency landing on a nearby soccer field but instead struck the metal roof of a commercial establishment. The impact triggered a large fire, causing extensive damage at the site. Emergency responders were immediately deployed to control the blaze and secure the area.

The state civil protection agency said rescue and investigation teams were continuing operations at the crash site and urged residents to stay away to allow emergency work to proceed safely. Officials stressed that the situation remained under control, though the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.

Mexico’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport confirmed that the crash occurred at approximately 12:31 p.m. local time. Aviation authorities have launched a formal inquiry to determine what led to the incident, including whether technical failure or weather conditions played a role.

San Mateo Atenco Mayor Ana Muniz Neyra visited the crash site and echoed calls for the public to avoid the area. She confirmed that the aircraft belonged to Jet Pro, a private aviation company. Importantly, she said no injuries were reported among people on the ground, despite the crash occurring in a populated industrial zone.

The incident has once again raised concerns about aviation safety and emergency preparedness near urban and industrial areas, as authorities continue efforts to establish the full circumstances behind the fatal crash.
