Suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir to Launch New Party, Targets 100+ Seats in West Bengal Assembly Elections

Kolkata, Dec 2025 : Humayun Kabir, the suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator from Bharatpur Assembly constituency in Murshidabad district, is set to announce the formation of his new political party on Monday. The announcement will take place in Mirzapur, near Beldanga, the site earmarked for the proposed Babri Mosque that Kabir plans to establish.

Kabir is expected to reveal the names of the office-bearers of his party and some district presidents during the launch event. He has expressed his intention to contest from over 100 constituencies in the state Assembly elections scheduled next year, asserting that his political outfit is likely to win a significant number of seats and emerge as a decisive factor in forming the new state government.

In a call to action, Kabir urged all anti-TMC and anti-BJP forces to join hands with him to challenge the current Trinamool Congress regime, while ensuring the Bharatiya Janata Party does not seize power in the process. “My primary task is to unite minority voters. Our goal is to win at least 90 constituencies so that my party can participate in government formation after the Assembly elections. Otherwise, my vision to establish the Babri Masjid in Beldanga might remain unfulfilled,” Kabir said.

Kabir also announced that his party will field candidates against both West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in South Kolkata, as well as against opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari at Nandigram in East Midnapore district. These strategic contests highlight Kabir’s ambition to directly challenge the state’s key political figures.

While Kabir has not officially disclosed the name of his new party, sources close to him indicate that the choice is between the “Indian Conservative Party” and the “Janata Unnayan Party.” He has, however, been explicit about his preferred logo options: a “table” as his first choice and “twin roses” as his second. “If neither of these is approved, I will consider a third option,” he remarked.

Kabir’s suspension from the Trinamool Congress earlier this month came after repeated censure from the party leadership. His ousting occurred just days before the foundation-stone laying ceremony for the proposed Babri Mosque on December 6 at Beldanga. The mosque is intended to be modeled after the original Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, which was demolished on December 5, 1992.

With the new political launch, Kabir aims to consolidate minority support and position his party as a significant player in West Bengal’s political landscape. Analysts suggest that his move could impact the dynamics of the upcoming Assembly elections, particularly in Murshidabad and surrounding districts where minority votes hold considerable sway.

As Monday approaches, all eyes will be on Mirzapur, where Kabir’s announcement is expected to set the tone for his party’s electoral strategy and reveal the leadership framework that will drive its campaign across the state.
