SW&TA and EMRS Staff Take Pledge to Combat Substance Abuse

Aizawl : On 12th August 2024, the staff of the Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs Directorate and Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) gathered at their office to take a pledge against substance abuse. This pledge was taken as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Drug-Free India Campaign), initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJ&E), in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.

The pledge-taking ceremony was led by Dr. Lalhriatzuali Ralte, Director of Social Welfare and Tribal Affairs. Similar events were also held across various sub-ordinate offices under the SW&TA.

In her address, the Director highlighted the nationwide implementation of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, which is being actively pursued in Mizoram under the supervision of District Commissioners at the district level. She mentioned that the Excise & Narcotics Department is focusing on reducing the supply of illicit substances, while MSACS is working on harm reduction strategies. The SW&TA is also engaged in demand reduction efforts.

Dr. Ralte urged the SW&TA staff to take initiative in their roles, extending their efforts beyond the office to involve the community, churches, and families in the fight against substance abuse. She emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in contributing to this cause.
