Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assigns officials the task of building a ‘Viksit Delhi’
Prepare public-oriented schemes and implement them within this year: Chief Minister
Delhi now needs ‘iconic’ efforts: Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta
New Delhi, January 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta has prepared a new roadmap for the development of the capital on the occasion of the New Year. In an important meeting with heads of all government departments, the Chief Minister made it clear that her government is committed to transforming Delhi into a “well-facilitated and developed” capital. To realise this vision, she assigned senior officials a special task: to design public-oriented schemes and ensure their implementation within this year itself.
The high-level meeting, held at the Delhi Secretariat, was attended by Cabinet Minister Shri Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Chief Secretary Shri Rajeev Verma, and senior officials from various departments of the Delhi Government.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister appreciated the diligence and professional journey of the officers. She said that she understands the immense hard work each of them has put in to reach their present positions. “You are the people who possess power, authority and vision,” she said. Highlighting their responsibility, the Chief Minister remarked that millions of young people across the world aspire to hold such positions, but today these officers are in a place from where they can bring about real change.
She emphasised that whenever a major transformation or a successful model is discussed in the country be it the Metro or Indore’s cleanliness model there is always the dedication of a committed officer behind it. Delhi, she said, now needs similar “iconic” efforts. Signalling a significant shift in the style of governance, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assigned direct responsibility to officials. She stated that the government wants people-centric schemes so that citizens can live happy and satisfied lives. Officials put in considerable effort to translate such schemes into reality.
She directed all departmental heads to ensure that public-oriented and citizen-focused schemes are implemented within the current year. Officials should prepare proposals, deliberate with the government, and give them practical shape. She noted that there is still substantial work to be done across departments such as PWD, Health, Transport, and Women and Child Development.
According to the Chief Minister, over the past ten months the government has “warmed up the engine”, and now it is time to pick up speed. She urged officials to move beyond files and seek solutions that can transform the face of Delhi.
Referring to long-standing issues such as garbage dumps, broken roads and poor drainage, the Chief Minister said these are legacy problems that can no longer be carried forward. She added that if everyone works together with collective strength, Delhi’s people will remember this effort for years to come. The goal, she said, is to end Delhi’s negative branding and make it the best city in the country.
Motivating the officers, she remarked that solutions exist with every official; what is required is the will to implement them. She assured full government support for every good and transformative idea. Concluding her address, she said that the New Year resolution should be to bring about such changes in governance that are remembered for generations, so that whenever Delhi is spoken about, it is cited as an example of outstanding civic facilities.
