Chief Minister Dr. Yadav’s New Year gift for small shopkeepers

Unnecessary inspections in small shops and establishments stopped

As per the directions of Dr. Mohan Yadav, the Labour Department of the Madhya Pradesh government has carried out an important amendment to the Madhya Pradesh Shops and Establishments Act, 1958. The amendment has been introduced with the objective of promoting ease of doing business in the state and reducing the unnecessary compliance burden on shopkeepers and establishment operators.

Under the amended provisions, labour inspections in shops and establishments employing fewer than 20 workers can now be conducted only with prior approval of the state government. This measure will effectively curb unnecessary inspections.

Additional Secretary, Labour Department, Shri Basant Kurre, stated that this decision will provide significant relief to small shopkeepers and entrepreneurs from avoidable harassment. It will also encourage a culture of self-compliance among traders and help create a more conducive environment for business operations and employment generation. The reform is expected to result in savings of time, resources and costs.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, the state government is adopting a sensitive and trust-based approach towards small shopkeepers and business operators. This step clearly reflects a policy shift from an inspection-and-penalty-driven framework to one based on confidence and cooperation, which is expected to prove more effective for the business community.

The Labour Department has appealed to all shopkeepers, trade associations, and entrepreneurs to voluntarily comply with labour laws and take advantage of this positive reform to expand and strengthen their businesses.
