New Delhi, January 2026 : Today, in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, the portraits of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji and Bharat Ratna Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Ji were unveiled in the House by Union Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh. The ceremony was held in the presence of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, Speaker of the Assembly Shri Vijender Gupta, and Chairman of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Padma Bhushan Shri Ram Bahadur Rai.

On this special occasion, a commemorative coffee table book titled ‘Bharat Mata’ was also released to mark the completion of 150 years since the composition of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’. The Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly Shri Mohan Singh Bisht, Delhi Government Cabinet Minister Shri Pravesh Sahib Singh, and other public representatives were also present. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta said that the unveiling of the portraits of Bharat Ratna former Prime Minister revered Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji and Bharat Ratna Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Ji, along with the release of the coffee table book within the Delhi Legislative Assembly complex, is a historic and inspiring moment for the Assembly.

She described the gracious presence of Union Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh Ji as a source of moral strength for the House. The Chief Minister stated that both these towering personalities symbolise the resolve of ‘nation first’, integrity, farsightedness and public welfare. Their portraits installed in the Assembly will continue to inspire future generations towards national service, good governance and value-based leadership.

Recalling the contributions of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Ji in the fields of education, the freedom movement and national consciousness, the Chief Minister said that the establishment of institutions such as Banaras Hindu University stands as testimony to his visionary and value-based approach to education. Referring to revered Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji as a statesman of an era, she said that the foundation of development and national unity laid by him is today forming the basis of India’s rapid progress.

The Chief Minister further stated that the coffee table book ‘Bharat Mata’, released to commemorate 150 years of the composition of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, is dedicated to the creative and artistic expression of Indian national consciousness, and will serve as a source of inspiration for students, researchers, and policy-makers.

The Chief Minister expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, stating that under his leadership, great personalities devoted to national service have received due honour and recognition. She said that in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of ‘development as well as heritage’, the Delhi Government is also working with firm commitment towards the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ by imbibing the ideals of great leaders who contributed to nation-building. The Chief Minister said that the thoughts and values of these great personalities will always guide the nation, and this remains our true tribute to them.
