Harmanpreet, Sciver-Brunt Power Mumbai Indians to Strong 195 Against Delhi Capitals
Navi Mumbai, Jan 2026 : Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and star all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt produced commanding half-centuries to propel Mumbai Indians (MI) to a competitive 195 for 4 against Delhi Capitals (DC) in a Women’s Premier League (WPL) clash at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday. The authoritative batting display marked a sharp turnaround for MI after a subdued outing in their previous match and underlined their batting depth and intent.
Asked to bat first, MI approached the innings with far greater clarity and aggression. Although they lost an early wicket, Sciver-Brunt anchored the innings with a polished knock of 70 off 46 balls, studded with 13 boundaries. Her innings was a fine blend of timing, placement and power, allowing MI to maintain momentum through the middle overs. She found an able partner in Harmanpreet Kaur, who was at her fluent best, remaining unbeaten on 74 off 42 balls, an innings that featured eight fours and three sixes.
Delhi Capitals began brightly when Amelia Kerr’s struggles at the top continued. Attempting a loose drive off Chinelle Henry, Kerr edged the ball to wicketkeeper Lizelle Lee, who completed the catch on her second attempt to give DC an early breakthrough. However, that early success proved to be one of the few bright spots for the Capitals’ bowling attack.
Sciver-Brunt quickly settled in, opening her boundary count with a crisp drive past mid-off before piercing the off-side field again with precision. She followed it up with a series of authoritative strokes, swatting Marizanne Kapp for a boundary and then taking on Chinelle Henry with consecutive hits to the fence. G Kamalini, batting alongside Sciver-Brunt, rotated the strike effectively and chipped in with a boundary off an outside edge, but it was the England skipper who dominated the proceedings.
Sciver-Brunt showcased her versatility by shuffling across the crease to sweep Sree Charani twice to the boundary in the fifth over. DC managed to stem the flow briefly when debutant pacer Nandini Sharma induced Kamalini into driving at a full delivery, resulting in a catch behind the stumps. Kamalini departed for 16, but MI continued to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Unfazed, Sciver-Brunt expanded her range of shots, reverse-sweeping and pulling Sneh Rana before punching Charani through the covers. She brought up her half-century in just 32 balls and then punished Minnu Mani with three boundaries in quick succession, driving over extra cover, flat-batting over the infield and pulling confidently in front of square.
At the other end, Harmanpreet Kaur gradually found her rhythm. She announced her intent by launching Chinelle Henry’s slower delivery over long-on for six and followed it up with a lofted drive over mid-off. Just as MI looked set for a massive total, Sciver-Brunt attempted to clear extra cover off Charani but failed to get enough elevation, ending a superb innings of 70.
Harmanpreet then took complete control. She found valuable support from Nicola Carey, who struck successive boundaries off Sneh Rana using the reverse sweep and a sharp cut shot. The pair rotated the strike well and continued to target loose deliveries. Harmanpreet raised her half-century by swinging a full toss from Minnu Mani over mid-wicket for six, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
Carey’s cameo ended on 21 when she attempted to pull Nandini Sharma but was bowled. Harmanpreet, however, ensured MI finished strongly. In a sensational final over bowled by Charani, the MI captain struck four consecutive boundaries—displaying a range of shots including slices, sweeps and lofted strokes—to collect 19 runs and push the total close to the 200 mark.
Delhi Capitals’ bowlers struggled with consistency, offering too many hittable deliveries, which MI’s experienced batters capitalised on ruthlessly.
Brief Scores:
Mumbai Indians 195/4 in 20 overs (Harmanpreet Kaur 74* off 42 balls, Nat Sciver-Brunt 70 off 46 balls; Nandini Sharma 2/26, Chinelle Henry 1/32) vs Delhi Capitals.
