Finance Minister to Present Union Budget 2026-27 on February 1
New Delhi, Jan 2026 : Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday confirmed that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2026-27 on February 1, which falls on a Sunday this year. The Finance Minister will begin her presentation at 11 a.m. in the lower house, the Speaker said during a press conference.
The Budget Session of Parliament is scheduled to commence on January 28 and continue until April 2. There had been some uncertainty regarding the exact date of the budget presentation, as February 1 is a Sunday, but the Speaker has now clarified the schedule.
Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju outlined the session’s structure. The first phase will run from January 28 to February 13, after which Parliament will go on a recess. The second phase will resume on March 9 and is expected to continue until April 2.
President Droupadi Murmu has approved the summoning of both Houses for the Budget Session 2026, based on the Central government’s recommendation. During the session, Parliament will not meet on January 29 due to the Beating Retreat ceremony, while both Houses are scheduled to sit on January 30, when the Economic Survey is expected to be tabled. Parliament will also not meet on January 31, the day before the Budget presentation.
After deliberations on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address and discussions on the budget, the Parliament is expected to adjourn for a month-long recess on February 13. The session will reconvene on March 9 and is likely to conclude on April 2.
Officials noted that while Parliament usually adjourns on a Friday, this year’s session may end a day earlier due to Good Friday on April 3, ensuring that proceedings are concluded in time.
The announcement brings clarity to the schedule and allows members, stakeholders, and the public to prepare for the presentation of the key financial blueprint for the next fiscal year. The Union Budget 2026-27 will outline government priorities, allocations, and reforms aimed at driving economic growth and development.
