52.43 Lakh Voters Registered Across Telangana’s Municipalities Ahead of Urban Local Body Polls

Hyderabad, Jan 2026 : Ahead of the forthcoming urban local body elections, the Telangana State Election Commission on Tuesday published the final voter list, revealing that a total of 52.43 lakh voters are registered across 118 municipalities and five municipal corporations in the state. The updated electoral data marks a key step in preparations for the municipal polls expected to be held next month.

According to the final rolls, the total electorate stands at 52,43,023 voters, comprising 25,62,369 men, 26,80,014 women, and 640 voters registered under the ‘others’ category. These voters are spread across 2,996 wards in the notified municipalities and corporations.

The Election Commission has completed the mapping and confirmation of voters on a municipality-wise basis to ensure accuracy and smooth conduct of the polls. The five municipal corporations included in the process are Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, and Ramagundam.

Among these, Nizamabad Municipal Corporation has emerged as the largest in terms of electorate, with 3,48,051 voters across 60 wards. Karimnagar Municipal Corporation follows closely with 3,40,580 voters spread over 66 wards. Mahabubnagar Municipal Corporation accounts for 1,97,841 voters in 60 wards.

Mancherial Municipal Corporation has 1,81,778 voters, while Ramagundam Municipal Corporation has a slightly higher voter strength of 1,83,049, also across 60 wards. At the municipal level, Adilabad has the highest number of voters, with 1,43,655 electors, while Amarachinta municipality in Wanaparthy district is the smallest, with just 9,147 voters.

The urban local body elections are likely to be conducted next month for municipalities and corporations whose terms concluded in July 2025. However, the Election Commission has not yet mapped or confirmed voters for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), as well as Khammam and Warangal municipal corporations, since their tenures end later. GHMC’s term concludes in February, while Khammam and Warangal corporations will complete their terms in April.

As part of election preparedness, State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini recently held consultations with representatives of recognised political parties. Officials said the formal election notification will be issued after finalising reservations for various sections, a process that will be based on population data.

Reservation of wards and divisions has emerged as a critical issue, and officials are prioritising its completion before releasing the poll schedule. Meanwhile, polling station lists and polling station-wise photo electoral rolls will be published on January 16 at Collectors’ offices, Municipal Commissioners’ offices, District Election Authorities, Revenue Divisional Offices, and Tahsildars’ offices.
