India Under-19 Clinch Thrilling DLS Win Over Bangladesh U19 by 18 Runs

Bulawayo, Jan 2026 : India Under-19 secured a dramatic 18-run victory over Bangladesh Under-19 via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in the 7th match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The win, despite rain interruptions, reinforced India’s position in the tournament with their second consecutive triumph.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first. India posted a competitive total of 238 all out in 48.4 overs. Opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi led the charge with a brisk 72 off 67 balls, striking six fours and three sixes. Wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu played a patient and stabilising innings, scoring 80 from 112 deliveries, contributing four fours and three sixes. Their partnership in the middle overs proved crucial in setting a challenging total.

Bangladesh’s bowling attack featured a standout performance from Al Fahad, who claimed a five-wicket haul (5/38 in 9.2 overs). Iqbal Hossain Emon (2/45) and captain Azizul Hakim Tamim (2/42) also picked up wickets, ensuring India were restricted to under 240.

Rain intervened during Bangladesh’s chase, reducing their innings to 29 overs with a revised DLS target of 165 runs. Bangladesh began positively, but India’s bowlers struck decisively at key moments. Captain Tamim top-scored with 51 off 72 balls, while MD Rifat Beg added 37 runs. However, India’s vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra was the star with the ball, delivering a devastating spell of 4 wickets for 14 runs in 4 overs. His breakthroughs dismantled Bangladesh’s momentum. Khilan Patel supported effectively, picking up 2/35, as Bangladesh were bowled out for 146 in 28.3 overs.

Malhotra’s all-round contribution earned him the Player of the Match award, highlighting his game-changing impact in the tense closing stages.

The match, though interrupted by rain, was filled with competitive spirit and drama, including reports of captains not shaking hands at the toss. On the field, both sides showcased impressive young talent, making it a thrilling contest for spectators.
