MLA Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga Attends Champhai GNM School Capping and Lamp Lighting Ceremony

Champhai, January 2026: Champhai South MLA Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga today attended the 2nd Capping and Lamp Lighting Ceremony of the Champhai General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) School as the chief guest. Champhai Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aaquib was present as the guest of honour.

Addressing the gathering, Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga expressed happiness at being part of the ceremony and described the capping and lamp lighting ritual as a solemn and dignified occasion that formally affirms the students’ entry into the noble nursing profession. Referring to Florence Nightingale, famously known as the “Lady with the Lamp,” he said nurses are bearers of light to society. He urged the students to cultivate compassion, dedication, and a spirit of service so that their work becomes a blessing to others and to the community at large.

Guest of honour Mohammad Aaquib also addressed the gathering and encouraged the students, stating that by donning the nursing uniform they have become symbols of hope for the sick and the injured. He advised them to always uphold the dignity of the cap and uniform they wear.

On the occasion, GNM School Principal Lalengzami Fanai highlighted the institution’s background, its functioning, academic standards, and various achievements. The capping and lamp lighting ceremony was conducted by Lawngtlai ANM School Principal F. Lalnunsiami. A prayer for the students was offered by Rev. Lalfakawma Chhangte. Special items were also presented by Dr. C. Lallawmkima from District Hospital, Champhai, along with GNM School students.

During the ceremony, graduating nursing students were ceremonially awarded their nurse caps and lamps, symbolising their formal induction into the nursing profession. The event marks the successful completion of their course and serves as a tribute to Florence Nightingale, whose exemplary service during the Crimean War made her one of the most revered figures in the history of nursing worldwide.
