Chief Minister Visits Chungtlang Rubber Plantation, Reviews CM Rubber Mission Progress

Chungtlang, January 2026:Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma today visited the rubber plantations at Chungtlang village. During the visit, he reviewed the progress of rubber cultivation and assessed future expansion plans under the Chief Minister Rubber Mission. Minister for Land Revenue, Settlement & Water Resources, Pu Lalthansanga, accompanied him.

The Chief Minister toured the Chungtlang rubber-growing areas up to the Tut River and also viewed the rubber plantations at W. Phaileng from a suitable vantage point. Following this, he held an interaction meeting with rubber growers at the Darkhuang area plantation.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Chungtlang is a village rich in rubber cultivation and that such a visit was both timely and meaningful. He noted that rubber is an indigenous crop of the region, and although government initiatives began around 1982, significant progress has been made only in recent years. Prior to the current government taking charge, rubber had already been planted on about 3,025 hectares through various schemes, with several private growers also involved.

He stated that Mizoram has the potential to cultivate rubber over nearly 50,000 hectares. Under the Chief Minister Rubber Mission, the government aims to cover 11,500 hectares within five years. He further informed that approval has already been given for 100 new processing units, which the government intends to make operational at the earliest. Urging farmers to put in their best efforts, he assured that the government would also extend full support, with the goal of making Mizoram a leading rubber-producing state through this mission.

Minister Pu Lalthansanga, in his address, said that the Chief Minister Rubber Mission has been blessed from its inception and is progressing smoothly. He noted that a pilot phase was implemented last year, during which around 400,000 saplings were planted. This year, the mission will be intensified further, as the government is determined not to allow the initiative to fail. He highlighted that Chungtlang currently forms the largest rubber cluster in Mizoram and expressed confidence that prosperity would continue to grow in the village. He encouraged both existing plantation owners and new growers to actively participate in the mission.

Pu Malsawmthanga, President of the Chungtlang Rubber Producer Society, presented a report on the society’s status. Under Phase II of the Chief Minister Rubber Mission, 105 families in Chungtlang have been allotted 95 hectares of land, making the village the third-highest beneficiary under this phase. He informed that rubber plantations under Phase II are showing healthy growth. Across the state, Phase II of the mission involves the planting of more than eleven lakh rubber saplings over an area of 2,575 hectares.

Rubber cultivation in Chungtlang began about ten years ago, during which approximately 75,000 saplings were planted, though not all survived. Since 2024, nearly 30,000 rubber trees have become tappable; however, due to a shortage of processing units, farmers have not yet been able to fully tap their production. In 2025 alone, the village earned around ₹70 lakh from rubber.

The government has recently improved access roads to the rubber plantations and has sanctioned ₹50 lakh for concrete pavement works. Additionally, steps are being taken to establish 100 processing units to support rubber growers across various locations.

The interaction meeting was chaired by Pu David Rosangpuia, Vice President of the Village Council. An invocation was delivered by Upa Lalridema, and Pu K. Hrangzuala, President of MIRSO, also addressed the gathering.
