Major Leap for Medical Education and Healthcare in the State
Mumbai, Sept 2026 : Following the directions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the process of establishing and effectively implementing the Maharashtra State Allied and Healthcare Council has now been accelerated. The decision is expected to strengthen and bring global standards to the education, training and regulation of healthcare professionals in the state. It will be an important step towards making medical education in Maharashtra more advanced and quality-oriented.
Updated National-Level Curriculum to Be Implemented in Maharashtra
With the objective of providing quality education to allied and healthcare professionals in the state, a notification for establishing the council was issued on October 10, 2024. The necessary rules and regulations required for the smooth functioning of the council have also been prepared.
Importantly, rapid steps are being taken to implement the updated national-level curriculum across Maharashtra from the academic year 2026-27. This will enable students in the state to receive education and training aligned with national standards.
Four Autonomous Boards to Raise Standards
Four important autonomous boards will be established under the council to improve the quality of healthcare services and bring greater coordination and uniformity to the functioning of the sector.
These include the Undergraduate Allied and Healthcare Education Board, Postgraduate Allied and Healthcare Education Board, Allied and Healthcare Professions Assessment and Accreditation Board, and Allied and Healthcare Professions Ethics and Registration Board.
The process for registering these professionals has also progressed. The procedure for approval of the Central Government's guidelines regarding registration has been completed, and a notification in this regard was published on August 31, 2026. The state government is now fully prepared to initiate the subsequent steps.
Maharashtra will also facilitate large-scale training in more than 50 disciplines, including physiotherapy, radiography, laboratory technology, optometry, dietetics and other allied healthcare fields. The process for this has also been initiated.
Greater Transparency and Capacity in Healthcare Sector
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, emphasis is being placed on ensuring effective coordination among the concerned departments and agencies for the efficient functioning of the council.
This significant initiative is expected to promote the development of quality professional standards, robust codes of conduct, appropriate assessment mechanisms and a strong and accountable regulatory system in Maharashtra's allied and healthcare sector.
The initiative is expected to become an important milestone for the state's healthcare system and for improving services provided to patients in the future.
