New Delhi, Aug 2026 : Air India on Monday advised passengers travelling between August 10 and August 20, 2026, to reach airports well ahead of their scheduled departure times as enhanced security measures are being implemented at airports across the country.
In a travel advisory posted on social media platform X, the airline urged passengers to factor in additional time for security checks, check-in and other airport formalities to avoid delays and ensure a smoother journey.
Air India said the heightened security protocols could result in longer processing times at different stages of the departure process. Passengers have therefore been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and arrive at the airport significantly earlier than usual.
“Due to enhanced security measures being implemented at airports, guests travelling between 10 August and 20 August 2026 are advised to arrive well in advance of their scheduled departure,” the airline said.
The carrier also asked travellers to allow extra time for baggage screening and security checks. It said arriving early would help passengers complete the necessary formalities without facing last-minute difficulties.
“Please allow additional time for security checks and airport formalities to ensure a smooth travel experience,” Air India said in its advisory.
The announcement comes amid stepped-up security arrangements at airports during the specified period. Airports are expected to implement additional screening and monitoring measures, which could increase waiting times for passengers, particularly during peak travel hours.
Earlier, Chennai International Airport had announced that it would remain under a high-security alert from August 10 to August 20. Passengers travelling through the airport were also advised to reach the terminal well in advance of their scheduled flight departure.
Chennai airport authorities urged travellers to take into account the additional time that may be required for check-in, baggage processing and security screening. They cautioned that enhanced security procedures could lead to longer queues and increased waiting periods.
The airport authorities said the additional measures were being implemented with passenger safety as the primary objective, while efforts would continue to ensure that airport operations remain smooth.
The advisory is particularly relevant for passengers travelling during busy hours, when increased security checks could potentially add to the time required to complete departure formalities. Travellers have been advised to keep their identification and travel documents readily accessible and cooperate with security personnel to minimise delays.
