New Delhi, Sep 2026 : Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions, diversions and regulated movement across several key routes in the national capital as India hosts the high-profile 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam on Saturday.
The measures have been introduced to facilitate the movement of foreign dignitaries and world leaders attending the two-day summit. According to an advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police on Friday night, traffic diversions and regulated movement will remain in effect on important routes from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.
“In view of the BRICS Summit on September 12, 2026, traffic diversions and regulated movement will be implemented on key routes across Delhi from 09:30 hrs to 21:00 hrs,” the traffic police said in a post on X.
The authorities have advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional time for travel, particularly those travelling through areas likely to experience heightened security arrangements.
The traffic police has also urged residents and visitors to use public transport, especially the Delhi Metro, wherever possible. Commuters have been asked to follow designated diversion routes and comply with instructions issued by traffic personnel deployed at various locations.
Emergency and essential-service vehicles will be given priority passage during the regulated movement, the advisory said.
Several major roads and corridors across central and south Delhi are expected to experience restrictions or temporary regulation during the movement of summit delegates and other dignitaries.
Among the important routes likely to be affected are Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Brigadier Hoshiary Singh Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg and Shanti Path.
Other roads included in the traffic arrangements are Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Ataturk Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Josef Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
The traffic measures are part of the extensive security and logistical arrangements being implemented in Delhi for the BRICS Summit. The national capital is witnessing the arrival and movement of several senior foreign leaders and dignitaries for the high-level meeting.
Officials have indicated that traffic will not be completely halted across the city. Instead, movement on affected routes may be temporarily regulated or diverted depending on the movement of VIP convoys and security requirements.
The traffic police has therefore advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel through affected corridors during the summit hours and consider alternative routes wherever feasible.
The 18th BRICS Summit is being hosted by India at Bharat Mandapam on September 12-13 under India's 2026 BRICS Chairship. With a large number of international dignitaries attending the event, authorities have stepped up security and traffic management arrangements to ensure smooth movement while minimising disruption to regular traffic.
