Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ministers

New Delhi, Aug 2026 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi for important discussions aimed at expediting major projects in Maharashtra’s infrastructure, industrial development and connectivity sectors

Chief Minister Fadnavis is on a visit to Delhi and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold detailed discussions on various development works in Maharashtra, pending projects and the support expected from the Central Government. During the meeting, he briefed Prime Minister Modi on the current status of the state administration as well as various projects being implemented with the support of the Central Government.

Various projects in the state are at different stages, and the Chief Minister also submitted a letter to Prime Minister Modi outlining the support expected from the Central Government to accelerate them further. Important projects such as highways, railways, metros, river-linking projects and the Uttan-Virar Corridor were discussed during the meeting.

Prime Minister Invited to Inaugurate Pune Metro

Work on the Pune Metro-3 project is nearly complete and testing is currently underway. Built with the cooperation of the Tata Group, it is the country’s first metro project developed under the new policy through a public-private partnership model. After the completion of testing, Chief Minister Fadnavis invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the project.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said his meeting with Prime Minister Modi was extremely positive and fruitful. He said that whenever Maharashtra had earlier sought the Central Government’s cooperation for various projects, it had received a positive response. Along the same lines, efforts were made during this visit to accelerate various important projects in the state with the support of the Central Government.

Financing for the Uttan-Virar Corridor

A special discussion was held with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the ambitious Mumbai-Vadhavan Expressway Connectivity, also known as the Uttan-Virar Corridor. The Maharashtra government has submitted a proposal seeking financial assistance through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the project, which is estimated to cost around Rs 55,000 crore.

Considering the project’s large financial scale, the Union Finance Minister suggested a positive option of involving another multilateral financial institution along with JICA to mobilise the funds required for the entire project. The Maharashtra government has responded positively to this option and will coordinate with the concerned institutions to take the proposal forward in the coming period. This effort has opened a new avenue for the financial structuring of the Uttan-Virar Corridor, and further action will be initiated to accelerate the project.

Follow-up for Environment and Forest Clearances

During the meeting with Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav, pending environmental and forest-related clearances for various important projects in Maharashtra were reviewed. Detailed information regarding clearances at different stages was presented to the Union Minister. A request was made for their speedy disposal so that development works are not delayed because of these clearances. A positive response was received at the Central level, with an assurance that the concerned proposals would be expedited.
