Inspections and Sampling Conducted Across Jaipur and Other Districts; Expired and Unfit Food Items Destroyed
Jaipur, September 2026: Intensive inspections and sampling of food establishments operating inside and around hospitals are continuing across Rajasthan under the ‘Shuddh Aahar–Milawat Par Waar’ campaign being conducted by the Food Safety and Drug Control Commissionerate under the direction of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar.
During the campaign, officials are checking compliance with food safety standards and ensuring that expired and unfit food products found during inspections are destroyed on the spot.
Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, Gayatri Rathore said patients visiting hospitals and their attendants must have access to safe and quality food along with medical treatment.
She directed officials to regularly inspect hygiene, food quality and safe storage practices at canteens, eateries and other food establishments operating inside and around hospitals. Establishments found violating food safety standards should be issued directions for corrective measures as per the rules, she said.
Food Safety and Drug Control Commissioner Avichal Chaturvedi said special monitoring was being carried out at food establishments in and around hospitals.
During inspections, officials are checking food quality, hygiene, labelling, storage conditions and expiry dates, besides collecting samples wherever required. Instructions have been issued to destroy expired or unfit food products on the spot and initiate action according to regulations.
Chaturvedi said inspections and sampling were conducted at food establishments located within the Kanwatia Hospital premises in Jaipur-I and Bombay Hospital in Jaipur-II.
In Baran, food establishments located opposite the Medical College were inspected, during which unfit food products were destroyed. At Kalyan Hospital and Shubham Hospital in Alwar, expired ice cream and spoiled fruits were found and destroyed on the spot.
At the canteen of Ethos Hospital in Kota, bread without proper labelling was destroyed.
In Churu’s Sardarshahar, action was taken at Siddhivinayak Misthan Bhandar near New Life Multispeciality Hospital. A total of 53 kg of food items, comprising 3 kg of spoiled potatoes, 10 kg of expired cold drinks and 40 kg of sweets, was destroyed. An improvement notice was issued to the establishment.
Similarly, expired food products were found at Saras Booth No. 9 near Chhotulal Government Hospital in Sardarshahar. The products were destroyed on the spot and action for issuing an improvement notice has been proposed.
At another location, 45 litres of expired cold drinks were destroyed outside Tijara District Hospital.
Inspections and sampling were also conducted at Abha Hospital in Nawalgarh, Jhunjhunu; Ojha Hospital in Tonk; and Sukh Sagar Pavitra Bhojanalaya near the Government Hospital in Bansur.
In Rajsamand, expired snacks and used cooking oil were destroyed at Pagaria Hospital. At Khairoth Hospital in Pratapgarh, 10 litres of refined soybean oil and 5 kg of poha were destroyed.
As part of the ongoing campaign, food establishments near Swatantrata Sangram Senani Shivraj Singh Government Hospital in Karauli, Ramsnehi Hospital in Bhilwara, Jindal Hospital in Bharatpur and hospitals in Fatehpur, Sikar, were also inspected.
Food establishments and eateries located around AIIMS Hospital in Jodhpur were subjected to intensive inspection as well.
Food Safety Standards Under Scrutiny
During the campaign, officials are checking food quality, hygiene, labelling, expiry dates, storage conditions, safe use of cooking oil and other food safety parameters.
Food samples are being collected wherever necessary, while spoiled, unfit and expired food products are being destroyed as per the prescribed procedures.
Chaturvedi said monitoring of food establishments operating inside and around hospitals would be strengthened further with the safety of patients and the general public in mind.
He said the special inspection and sampling campaign would continue until September 30, and establishments failing to comply with food safety regulations would face action according to the law.
