YSRCP chief raises recruitment concerns before Governor Abdul Nazeer and alleges attack on party leaders during SAAP protest
Vijayawada, Sept 2026 : Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday met Governor S. Abdul Nazeer and sought his intervention into what he described as serious irregularities in the 2025 District Selection Committee (DSC) teacher recruitment process.
Jagan also complained about the alleged attack on YSRCP leaders and unemployed youth during a protest at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) office in Vijayawada. He reiterated his demand for the resignation of Education Minister Nara Lokesh and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the recruitment process.
Addressing the media after meeting the Governor, Jagan said he had submitted material relating to the alleged irregularities and explained how, according to the YSRCP, the problems emerged at different stages of the recruitment process, from examination preparation to the appointment of candidates.
He alleged that responsibility for preparing and conducting the examination was concentrated with a single individual heading the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Jagan also referred to the case of an outsourced employee who allegedly secured a top rank but was subsequently denied appointment, arguing that the circumstances warranted an independent investigation.
Jagan further alleged that government orders were introduced to enable certain candidates to secure appointments without appearing for the DSC examination. He claimed that some candidates had also not taken the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), while 372 appointments were made under the sports quota without a written DSC examination. These claims have been disputed by education officials, who have said the sports-quota appointments followed applicable recruitment rules.
The YSRCP chief also questioned the authenticity of sports certificates submitted by some candidates. He alleged that certificates issued by softball and judo associations had raised concerns and pointed to what he described as contradictory statements between SAAP and the associations concerned. The issue has separately prompted calls for verification of sports credentials, while authorities have initiated scrutiny of some certificates.
Jagan also referred to audio-visual material circulating on social media that he claimed suggested the sale of jobs. He alleged that no adequate action had been taken on such material and accused the state government of failing to address the concerns raised by opposition parties.
On the SAAP protest, Jagan alleged that YSRCP leaders and unemployed youth were attacked despite the party having sought permission to submit a representation. He further alleged that cases carrying serious charges were subsequently registered against protesters. Police had earlier used force to disperse YSRCP activists after some protesters attempted to cross barricades and enter the SAAP office.
Jagan said the reported recruitment issues and the handling of the protests required an impartial investigation. He argued that a CBI inquiry was necessary to establish the facts and protect the interests of job aspirants.
The former Chief Minister also referred to the custodial death case involving Sai Krishna and the proceedings before the Supreme Court, citing the court's observations while criticising the state government's handling of the matter.
Jagan said the YSRCP would continue its campaign until its demands for accountability and justice were addressed.
