Amaravati, Oct 2026 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and sought the Centre’s support for several major infrastructure and development projects in the state.
During the meeting, Naidu discussed a range of issues related to Andhra Pradesh’s economic development, agriculture, irrigation and infrastructure. According to an official release, the Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister on the progress of key projects and the state’s current economic situation.
On irrigation, Naidu apprised Modi of the latest status of the Polavaram project and discussed the proposed linking of the Godavari and Cauvery rivers. He said the Godavari-Cauvery river-linking project could help ensure adequate water availability to the southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Naidu said road networks and power grids had been developed across the country under successive NDA governments and argued that taking forward the river-linking initiative could eventually pave the way for a national water grid.
The Chief Minister also discussed preparations for the Godavari Pushkarams in 2027, saying extensive arrangements were being made across Andhra Pradesh for the major religious event. He requested financial assistance from the Centre for infrastructure and development works being undertaken in connection with the Pushkarams.
Naidu said the event was expected to attract devotees not only from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana but also from different parts of the country and abroad. He stressed the need for adequate infrastructure and facilities to accommodate the anticipated influx of pilgrims.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the impact of deficient rainfall on agriculture in Andhra Pradesh. He informed the Prime Minister that the state had recorded a 53 per cent rainfall deficit, which he attributed to the impact of El Niño. The shortfall had adversely affected the agricultural sector, he said, while outlining measures being taken by the state government to address the drought-like situation and support farmers.
Naidu sought the Centre’s assistance for several major infrastructure initiatives, including the proposed Outer Ring Road around Amaravati, the state capital. He also requested approval for the proposed Visakhapatnam Metro project and briefed Modi on plans for the Beach Road project.
The Chief Minister further explained the objectives of the Swarna Andhra–2047 Vision, which aims to promote comprehensive development and ensure that the benefits of economic progress reach all sections of society.
Naidu also apprised the Prime Minister of the Global Horticulture Hub at Madanapalle, which was recently launched with the Centre’s support. He said the initiative was intended to strengthen the horticulture sector and create new opportunities for farmers and allied industries.
The Chief Minister also informed Modi that the foundation stone had been laid for the Indian School of Agriculture, envisioned along the lines of the Indian School of Business.
During the meeting, Naidu congratulated Prime Minister Modi on completing 25 years as head of government and praised his leadership. He said Modi was transforming India into a global power through long-term vision, clear objectives, decisive action and effective governance.
Naidu also highlighted what he described as Modi’s emphasis on cooperative federalism, under which states are partners in the country’s development journey towards Viksit Bharat. He said the Prime Minister’s leadership had also contributed to enhancing India’s stature and credibility in international affairs.
The meeting covered several areas of cooperation between the Centre and Andhra Pradesh, with Naidu seeking continued central support for infrastructure, irrigation, agriculture and development initiatives in the state.
