Gorakhpur, August 2026 : In view of the flood situation in some districts of Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government has directed the administration to remain fully prepared for relief and rescue operations. Accordingly, relief teams are being deployed in flood-affected and vulnerable areas, necessary resources, including motorboats, are being made available, and personnel are being trained in rescue operations. The impact of these preparations was witnessed in Gorakhpur when a flood relief team became a lifeline for a youth who was drowning in the Rapti River.
The youth had jumped into the Rapti River from Nausadh Ramghat and, within moments, began drowning in the deep waters. The flood relief team of the 26th Battalion PAC present at the spot immediately launched a rescue operation using a motorboat. Thanks to the promptness, courage, and presence of mind of the personnel, the youth was safely brought out of the river.
There was a commotion at Ramghat in Nausadh on the Rapti River on Friday evening when a youth jumped into the river with the intention of ending his life. To save the life of the youth who was drowning in the deep waters, the flood relief team of the 26th Battalion PAC, Gorakhpur, immediately launched a rescue operation without any delay.
According to the 26th Battalion PAC, Gorakhpur, Umesh Kumar, a resident of Dhantghata in Sant Kabir Nagar, jumped into the Rapti River at around 6 pm. At the time, B Company of the PAC was deployed at Ramghat for flood relief training and duty. Personnel were being trained in flood relief operations when they spotted the youth drowning in the river. Head Constable Mahatma Prasad immediately took charge of the rescue operation.
Under the leadership of Mahatma Prasad, the team immediately entered the river in a motorboat and began searching for the drowning youth. The team located and rescued him safely within a very short time. Following the rescue, the youth was handed over to the local police for necessary action. His condition is now reported to be normal.
Head Constable Mahatma Prasad, along with Constables Sanjay Kumar Gautam, Krishnachand Maurya, Ramesh Yadav, Manoj Shukla, Jitendra Kumar, Ravi Gautam, and Dhirendra Gond, participated in the courageous rescue operation. The company commander and the Rajghat police station in-charge also appreciated the rescue team's prompt response and dedication to duty.
