New Delhi, Aug 2026 : With the nation preparing to celebrate its 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged citizens to participate enthusiastically in the Centre’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, describing the Tricolour as a symbol of national pride and a constant source of inspiration.
The campaign is being organised this year around the theme of ‘Vande Mataram’, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the iconic national song.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi shared a message from the Ministry of Culture and called upon citizens to make the campaign a collective expression of patriotism. “Our Tricolour is our pride and a constant source of inspiration to always give our best for the nation,” he said.
Modi urged people to participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ movement and renew their commitment to contributing towards the creation of a ‘Viksit Bharat’. He said he was pleased that this year’s campaign had been dedicated to ‘Vande Mataram’ at a time when the country is commemorating 150 years of the national song.
The Ministry of Culture also appealed to citizens to celebrate the spirit of Independence Day by taking the Tricolour to homes and public spaces. It said the call of ‘Vande Mataram’ had inspired generations of Indians over the past 150 years.
The ministry said this year’s celebrations would feature Tiranga Yatras, rallies, concerts and mass singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ across the country. It also highlighted ‘Suryapath Tiranga’, describing it as a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at bringing Indians across the world together in a collective celebration of the national flag.
As part of the campaign, citizens have been encouraged to hoist the Tricolour at their homes and upload selfies with the flag on the official ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ website.
The Independence Day campaign has also received political support, with the Bharatiya Janata Party organising ‘Tiranga Yatras’ in several states. Party leaders said the rallies were aimed at remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters and strengthening public participation in Independence Day celebrations.
In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav participated in a Tiranga Yatra in Bhopal. Speaking to reporters, he recalled the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle and said citizens had a responsibility to remember revolutionaries, martyrs and freedom fighters who contributed to the country’s independence.
In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took part in a Tiranga rally in Lucknow. He highlighted the energy and potential of India’s youth and said young people should be provided with appropriate platforms to contribute to the nation’s development.
Adityanath said youth should be equipped to confront emerging challenges facing the country and society while also remaining connected with traditional education and values.
The Tiranga Yatra, he said, was part of a broader effort to inspire patriotic participation and encourage young people to contribute constructively to nation-building.
With Independence Day approaching, the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is expected to bring together citizens, institutions and communities through flag-hoisting events, cultural programmes and public activities centred on national pride and the values associated with India’s freedom movement.
