NEW DELHI, Aug 2026 : Delhi Police took away Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar from his home at around 4 am on Tuesday and has since refused to provide any information about his whereabouts. AAP Delhi State Vice President and MLA Sanjeev Jha reached the East District DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police)’s office seeking information about Kuldeep Kumar, but said no police official was willing to provide any details.
Sanjeev Jha said that under BJP rule, even demanding justice had become a crime. Kuldeep Kumar, he said, had been seeking justice for the sanitation worker stabbed to death in broad daylight in Kalyanpuri. He also said the police broke the DVR (Digital Video Recorder) of the CCTV cameras installed at his house.
AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha said,“At around 3-4 am on Tuesday morning, Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar was picked up. A sanitation worker was murdered in broad daylight and there is even a video of the murder. Kuldeep Kumar was demanding justice for him. At 3 am, police personnel in plain clothes came and not only took him away, but also broke his cameras and took away the DVR. Is the police here to protect people or to engage in robbery and hooliganism?”
Sanjeev Jha said, “I am a four-time MLA and have been continuously calling the Commissioner of Police and speaking to the Joint Commissioner of Police, but the DCP is not answering my calls. I spoke to the ACP in the morning and he said he knew nothing. I spoke to Joint CP Ajit Kumar Singla, who said that nothing would happen and there was no need to worry.”
He further emphasised that the whole of Delhi is worried because murders are taking place every day, and if someone demands justice, they will be picked up. “The Prime Minister says these are people with an ‘urban Naxal mindset’. Does that mean demanding justice and asking questions amounts to having an urban Naxal mindset? How will people get justice in such a situation?,” he questioned.
The senior AAP leader asked,“What was Kuldeep Kumar’s mistake? He was only demanding justice for a sanitation worker. Not a single Delhi Police officer reached the spot, and not even a minister or MLA from the Delhi government reached there. I want to ask Home Minister Amit Shah, is this what his law and order and police arrangements look like?”He questioned why the person who committed the murder was not being arrested, while the person demanding justice was arrested and taken away without anyone knowing where he had been taken.
Sanjeev Jha said he had heard of people being picked up in this manner in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and that everyone had also heard about incidents in Uttar Pradesh where people were forcibly cremated and family members were picked up. “Now the same thing is being done by the police in the national capital. Has the police come dressed in uniform to engage in hooliganism or to deliver justice?” he asked.
Sanjeev Jha asserted, “I am standing here and I want to tell the DCP that if it is not made clear where Kuldeep Kumar is, this will not be acceptable. We will not allow this goondagardi to continue. The goondagardi being in uniform will not be allowed to continue anymore.”
