Mumbai, Aug 2026 : The administration should prioritise filling potholes on roads to prevent traffic congestion in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial area. However, keeping in mind the difficulties involved in road repairs during the monsoon, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today directed officials to use modern technologies such as pre-cast roads and geo-polymer techno patches. He also directed 14 departments to work together under the chairmanship of the District Collector and immediately implement an action plan for infrastructure development.
The meeting was attended by Industries Minister Uday Samant, MP Dr Amol Kolhe, Legislative Council member Dr Neelam Gorhe, MLA Babaji Kale, Industries Department Principal Secretary Dr Anbalagan, MIDC Chief Executive Officer Dipendra Singh Kushwah, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary, representatives of industrialists and industrial associations from Chakan and Talegaon, and senior officials from the Energy, Police, Town Planning, Labour and PMRDA departments, among others.
Maharashtra is the industrial engine of the country, and the real strength of that engine lies in industrial belts such as Chakan and Talegaon, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said. He directed officials to adopt short-, medium- and long-term measures to resolve traffic congestion affecting industries in the region. Considering the difficulties of repairing roads during the monsoon and the need for immediate solutions, he suggested using the pre-cast road technology adopted on the Thane-Nashik route and in the Kashedi tunnel, along with modern solutions such as geo-polymer techno patches.
Pune District Collector will act as the nodal officer to address the problems faced by industries and local residents in the Chakan-Talegaon area. All 14 departments will work in coordination under the Collector, who has been directed to hold a meeting of all concerned officials every Friday to accelerate implementation of the works.
The administration was directed to review ongoing road works in the Chakan industrial area and expedite their completion. Action should also be taken against contractors who deliberately delay or avoid completing assigned works, Shinde said. He further directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan covering interconnected infrastructure such as drainage, solid waste management, water supply, roads and electricity in the industrial area and ensure its effective implementation.
To prevent traffic congestion caused by the poor condition of roads in Chakan city, priority should also be given to filling potholes along road edges. Where necessary, officials should plan new internal roads, alternative routes and flyovers. Shinde also announced that the long-pending development plan for Chakan city would be approved immediately.
To address electricity-related issues, Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MahaTransco) has planned to install a new transformer by August 31, while MIDC will provide land for a new substation. MIDC will also make land available for solid waste management projects, police stations, fire stations and hospitals, Shinde said.
He expressed confidence that a Dedicated Freight Corridor connecting Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ranjangaon and Chakan MIDC, along with a new highway connecting Uran, Karjat, Rajgurunagar, Shirur and Pune, would boost industrial development in the Chakan region and help ease traffic congestion.
Maharashtra is a leading industrial state, and providing quality infrastructure to industries is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure that the state retains its position at the forefront of industrial development. The Deputy Chief Minister directed officials to plan measures that would provide relief to industrialists and local residents from traffic congestion, potholes and other infrastructure-related difficulties.
