Jaishankar at UNGA: India’s Achievements, Call for Global Reforms
New York : External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered a compelling address at the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday, where he showcased India’s significant accomplishments and addressed the pressing global challenges. He highlighted India’s strides in space exploration, particularly the moon landing, and the development of indigenous 5G technology, framing these as symbols of hope and optimism for the world.
Jaishankar underscored that the concentration of production in limited regions has weakened global economies, resulting in job losses and social instability. He emphasized the need for more equitable globalization, cautioning against countries benefiting disproportionately from international systems without fair contributions.
Additionally, he called for urgent reforms in multilateral organizations, urging the United Nations to work together in a unified manner to promote peace, sustainable development, and human dignity. He warned that division, conflict, and inadequate access to essential resources such as food and fuel pose significant threats to global stability.
Jaishankar also criticized developed nations for shirking their responsibilities in addressing climate change, arguing that their inaction stifles the progress of developing countries. He urged the UN to tackle these structural and political challenges to prevent further global deterioration.
In conclusion, he acknowledged the polarized state of global affairs, which complicates dialogue and agreements. He reaffirmed India’s support for the UNGA’s theme, ‘Leaving No One Behind,’ calling for global unity in addressing shared challenges.
