On the instructions of CM Sai, the facility of open heart surgery started in the Heart, Chest and Vascular Surgery Department of Ambedkar Hospital

A team of skilled doctors of the Heart Surgery Department of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Smriti Chikitsalaya, the largest government hospital of Chhattisgarh, has given a new life to a 50-year-old woman by performing a successful open heart surgery on her. This successful operation was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Krishnakant Sahu, Head of the Heart Surgery Department. After the surgery, the woman’s condition is fine and she is currently under the supervision of doctors. The patient’s valve has been replaced.

Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal has congratulated the residents of the state on the arrival of the new year and extended his best wishes to the hospital management for the start of open heart surgery facility. Shri Jaiswal has said that very soon bypass surgery will also be started here.

A 50-year-old female patient from Mahasamund had been complaining of breathlessness for almost three years. The heartbeat would increase with even a little work, which is called heart palpitations. With these problems, the woman reached Dr. Krishnakant Sahu in the Heart Surgery Department of Advanced Cardiac Institute of Ambedkar Hospital. He conducted a complete examination of the patient. The examination revealed that there was shrinkage in the heart valve and leakage in one valve. The heart valve had shrunk so much that the doctor had advised her to undergo surgery 3 years ago, but on hearing the name of open heart surgery, the patient and her family members got scared and at that time they refused to undergo open heart surgery. After that, the problem increased and the patient once again reached Dr. Krishnakant Sahu, where he gave the woman all the information related to open heart surgery. He counseled her. He explained in detail about the improvement in health after surgery.

Keeping in mind the condition of the patient, Dr. Krishnakant Sahu informed the Superintendent of Ambedkar Hospital, Dr. Santosh Sonkar, about the seriousness of the case and the need for open heart surgery. On the instructions of Health Minister Shri Jaiswal, immediate arrangements were made for cardiac anesthetist, perfusionist and other human resources. Finally, on December 26, the patient underwent open heart surgery and an artificial valve was implanted in the patient’s heart and one valve was repaired. In medical language, this operation is called mitral valve replacement by using bileaflet metallic prosthetic valve plus tricuspid valve repair under heart lung machine.

While giving information about the current condition of the patient, Dr. Krishnakant Sahu said that the patient ate breakfast, lunch and dinner with his own hands today. The patient’s condition is continuously improving.

The team that operated on the patient included Dr. Krishnakant Sahu, Head of Heart Surgery Department, Dr. Varun, Cardiac Anaesthetist, Rahul and Digeshwar, Perfusionists and Rajendra, Narendra and Chova Ram were the nursing staff.
