Clean Drinking Water Finally Reaches Rekha Sahu’s Home After a Lifetime of Struggle
Raipur : For nearly five decades, Rekha Devi Sahu battled daily for access to clean water—walking long distances to fetch water from wells and hand pumps. Today, thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission, she finally has access to clean drinking water in her own home.
A resident of Pandritarai village in the Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district, Rekha Devi is the head of a large family that includes two sons, daughters-in-law, and a daughter. Reflecting on her past, she says, “Without water, no task of daily life is possible. I’ve spent most of my life struggling with water scarcity. But now, thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission, I feel relieved and truly happy.”
Rekha Devi runs a small grocery store at home and also engages in farming to support her family. Despite the improved access to water, she remains deeply conscious of its value. She regularly reminds her daughters and daughters-in-law about conserving water, saying, “Water is priceless—don’t waste it unnecessarily.”
Expressing her gratitude, Rekha Devi applauds the Jal Jeevan Mission and extends heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai for bringing such a vital change to her life.
