Nagpur’s New Identity as a City of World-Class Infrastructure – CM Devendra Fadnavis
Double-Decker Viaduct on Metro’s Kamptee Road Enters Guinness Book of World Records; Certificate Presented in Presence of Chief Minister
Nagpur, Sept 2025 : Thanks to MahaMetro’s rapid development of world-class infrastructure, Nagpur has gained global recognition. MahaMetro constructed the world’s longest double-decker viaduct on Kamptee Road, which has now been recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while congratulating the officials, said this achievement has given Nagpur a new identity as a city of outstanding infrastructure.
At a special function held at Ramgiri in the presence of the Chief Minister, Guinness World Records’ India representative Swapnil Dongrikar presented the official certificate to MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar.
The Kamptee Road double-decker viaduct (Metro) is the longest of its kind globally. Built on a single-column pillar, it extends 5.637 km and serves both metro and highway traffic, making it a marvel of engineering.
Earlier, the 3.2 km double-deck flyover at Chhatrapati Nagar had also been recognized at the international level. With this latest achievement, Nagpur is not just known as the “Orange City” but is now also recognized worldwide for its infrastructure. The double-decker bridge is the first in the world to simultaneously accommodate railway, highway, and metro traffic on the same stretch, making it an engineering wonder. The project used 1,650 tonnes of steel.
The structure has attracted global attention, with experts in engineering and architecture visiting to study it. “MahaMetro and Nagpur are pioneers in creating such double-decker viaducts,” said MD Shravan Hardikar.
During the event, CM Fadnavis was welcomed with a floral bouquet. A documentary film was screened highlighting the construction of India’s longest double-decker metro viaduct. The bridge integrates five metro stations—GaddiGodam, Kadbi Chowk, Indora Chowk, Nari Road, and Automotive Square—showcasing exceptional use of technology. The four-tiered design features a highway on the first level, metro on the second, and an existing road at ground level, easing heavy traffic congestion on Kamptee Road.
Previously, the Chhatrapati Square viaduct had also been listed in Guinness World Records.
The event was attended by MahaMetro Director Anil Kumar Kokate, Project Director Rajeev Tyagi, Executive Director Naresh Gurbani, GM Yatin Rathod, Chief Project Manager N.V.P. Vidyasagar, Project Director Prakash Mudaliar, along with other officials and Guinness representatives.
