Para-Athletes Bring Glory to Chhattisgarh
Mahasamund Athletes Shine with 5 Medals at National Championship in Gwalior
Raipur, Sept 2025 : Para-athletes from Mahasamund district showcased their talent with an outstanding performance at the 14th Junior and Sub-Junior National Para Athletics Championship 2025, held from August 29 to 31 at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Divyang Sports Training Center, Gwalior. The five athletes from Fortune Foundation Karmapatpar, Bagbahra, an institute recognized by the Department of Social Welfare, won a total of five medals, bringing pride to the district.
In the Junior Men’s T-11 category, Sukhdev won two gold medals in the 400m and 1500m races, drawing much attention. In the T-12 category, Nikhil Kumar Yadav clinched gold in the 1500m race, further honoring the district. In the Sub-Junior Women’s T-12 category, Neelam Tandon bagged a silver medal in the 400m race, while in the T-11 category, Devmoti secured a bronze medal in long jump. Additionally, Notion Lal Patel put up a strong performance in the T-2 category 1500m race, finishing in fourth place.
The foundation’s founder, as well as national team coach and manager, Niranjan Sahu, informed that the team included three boys and two girls, accompanied by coach-manager and guide runners Devendra Thakur and Meghraj Yadav, along with support staff Divya Lochan and Rashmi Sahu.
It is noteworthy that Sukhdev had earlier won a gold medal in the 1500m race at the 7th Open International Para Athletics Championship, held in Bengaluru on July 11–12, 2025.
Public representatives and the district administration congratulated the athletes on their achievements and extended best wishes for their bright future.
