Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel chairs meeting of Mayors’ Council
Chandigarh, Sept 2025 – Haryana’s Urban Local Bodies Minister Sh. Vipul Goel today presided over an important meeting of the Mayors’ Council. The meeting extensively reviewed preparations for the “Sewa Pakhwada” to be organized from September 17 to October 2, 2025. Special emphasis was laid on cleanliness drives and urban development works so that all municipal corporations in the state can become clean, beautiful, and well-equipped with facilities.
In the meeting, Minister Sh. Goel directed that during Sewa Pakhwada, cleanliness campaigns should be run at a large scale in all municipal corporations. He called upon all mayors to promote healthy competition in cleanliness in their respective areas. During this period, special focus will be placed on awareness programmes related to sanitation, waste management and cleaning of public places. The Minister stated that by the end of this year, cleanliness surveys will be conducted in all municipal corporations, under which the performance of corporations in sanitation and infrastructure will be evaluated. He urged mayors to take this survey seriously and take concrete steps to bring their regions to the forefront in national cleanliness rankings.
During the meeting, Sh. Vipul Goel also took detailed reports from all mayors regarding ongoing development works in their corporations. He emphasized that public representatives should give special attention to basic facilities such as drinking water, roads, street lighting, and sewerage systems. He stated that development works should be carried out in line with the needs and expectations of the common people, so that citizens can enjoy a better standard of living. The Minister instructed all mayors and corporation officials to work in unity for cleanliness and development. He said that cleanliness should not be seen merely as a campaign but adopted as a way of life. For this, he stressed the need to promote public participation. He appealed to mayors to involve local residents, voluntary organizations, and youth in the cleanliness campaign.
The Minister also directed all municipal corporations to accelerate their preparations for Sewa Pakhwada starting from September 17. Along with cleanliness, special focus will also be placed on social awareness, tree plantation, and improving civic amenities. The Minister said that this fortnight will be not only about sanitation but will also serve as an important opportunity for community development. Sh. Goel urged public representatives to fulfill their responsibilities with full dedication and ensure prompt resolution of public grievances. He stressed that transparency and quality must be ensured in all development works.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner and Secretary of the Urban Local Bodies Department Sh. Vikas Gupta and mayors of various municipal corporations.
