1% Stamp Duty Relief for BSUP Allottees in Thane: DyCM Eknath Shinde
Providing major relief to project-affected families purchasing homes in BSUP apartments within the Thane Municipal Corporation limits, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that a 1% concession will be granted on the additional stamp duty, and a nominal fee of only ₹100 will be charged for the duplicate document.
The JNNURM and BSUP schemes—joint initiatives of the Central Government, State Government, and Thane Municipal Corporation—are designed for the urban poor. The land developed under these schemes by the Thane Municipal Corporation is located on existing slum areas, and the residents from these settlements are being rehabilitated in BSUP apartments.
These residents belong to economically weaker sections and are mostly daily-wage earners. As a result, the additional stamp duty charged during the registration of individual apartment agreements becomes a significant financial burden. In many cases, families would have had to pay an additional amount ranging from ₹56,000 to ₹1,34,000 for the allotted apartments.
Taking this hardship into account, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde decided to provide a 1% concession on the stamp duty surcharge for beneficiaries under these schemes. This decision will benefit 6,343 poor families in the Thane division.
