Exit Polls Predict Clear Mandate for BJP in West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026

Kolkata, April 2026 : Exit polls following the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal have largely projected a decisive mandate in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), indicating a potential shift in the state’s political landscape. Out of six major surveys released after polling concluded, five point towards a clear majority or strong lead for the BJP, while only one suggests a return of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) to power.

According to multiple exit poll agencies, the BJP is projected to cross the majority mark comfortably. One survey estimates the party’s tally between 146 and 161 seats, while placing the TMC between 125 and 140 seats. Similarly, Chanakya Strategies forecasts the BJP securing 150 to 160 seats, with the TMC trailing at 130 to 140 seats.

Another key projection by P-Mark gives the BJP a range of 150 to 175 seats, reinforcing the narrative of a strong mandate. The TMC, in comparison, is expected to secure 118 to 138 seats. Poll Diary also reflects a similar trend, predicting 142 to 171 seats for the BJP and 99 to 127 seats for the TMC.

In contrast, People’s Pulse offers a divergent view, projecting a comfortable victory for the TMC with 177 to 187 seats, while the BJP is expected to secure between 95 and 110 seats. Despite this outlier, the overall trend across exit polls strongly favours the BJP.

Prja Poll presents one of the most emphatic projections, suggesting a landslide win for the BJP with 178 to 200 seats, while the TMC is estimated to remain between 85 and 110 seats. This further strengthens the perception of a pro-BJP wave across the state.

The broader picture emerging from these projections indicates a strong possibility of a change in power in West Bengal, with the BJP poised to make significant electoral gains. Political observers note that voter sentiment appears to have shifted in several regions, contributing to the party’s projected surge.

The BJP has welcomed these projections, interpreting them as a reflection of public desire for change, while the TMC has rejected the exit polls, maintaining that the final results will differ significantly and favour its leadership under Mamata Banerjee.

Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress and other smaller parties are expected to play only a limited role, as indicated by most surveys.

With counting day approaching, the spotlight now shifts to the official results, which will determine whether the BJP’s projected mandate materialises or if the TMC retains its hold over West Bengal.
