‘Kriti Kirana Store’ Transforms the Life of ‘Lakhpati Didi’ Kartam Savita
Raipur, April 2026: The story of Kartam Savita from Polampalli village in the Konta development block of Sukma district highlights how government support combined with determination can empower rural women to achieve financial independence.
Earning around ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 per month, Savita has successfully moved away from a life of daily wage labour to become a self-reliant entrepreneur. Under the guidance of District CEO Mukund Thakur, she joined the Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission and the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, which played a crucial role in transforming her livelihood.
Savita recalls that earlier her family depended on daily labour and small jobs, which kept them in a financially unstable condition. However, her life took a positive turn after she became a member of the “Priya Self-Help Group.” Through the group, she secured a loan of ₹60,000 and started her own grocery shop, “Kriti Kirana Store.”
Today, her shop generates an annual net income of approximately ₹1 to ₹2 lakh. This steady income has not only strengthened her family’s financial position but also boosted her confidence and social standing in the village, where she is now recognized as a successful woman entrepreneur.
Savita says she no longer needs to search for work elsewhere, as her shop provides a regular source of income. Her entire family contributes to the business, ensuring better education and a secure future for her children. She adds that her household now enjoys greater stability, peace, and prosperity.
District Collector Amit Kumar noted that under the Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission and the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ campaign, efforts are being intensified to connect women with self-employment opportunities and make them economically independent. He highlighted that, as part of an innovative initiative, four “Seva Express” units are being operated to connect women in remote areas with self-help groups.
Through this initiative, over 5,500 women in Sukma district have already become “Lakhpati Didis,” marking a significant and historic achievement for the region. The scheme is not only providing financial support but also fostering confidence, dignity, and a new identity among rural women.
Expressing her happiness, Savita said that government schemes have given wings to the dreams of rural women. She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, stating that initiatives like the Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission and the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ campaign enabled her to leave behind daily wage labour and establish her own business, paving the way for a brighter future.
