Mass Rallies Across Iran Signal Unity and Support for New Leadership
Tehran, April 2026 : Tens of thousands of people across Iran participated in large-scale rallies on Wednesday, expressing solidarity with the country’s leadership and emphasizing national unity amid ongoing regional tensions.
The demonstrations were held simultaneously in multiple cities to mark the birth anniversary of Imam Reza, a significant religious occasion for Shiite Muslims. The rallies began in the afternoon and continued into the evening, drawing massive crowds in urban centers.
In Tehran, participants marched from Imam Hossein Square to Azadi Square, carrying Iranian flags and portraits of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in a joint US-Israeli strike earlier this year, as well as images of the current leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
Senior officials, including Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani, joined the gatherings, reflecting official support for the demonstrations. Protesters chanted slogans against the United States and Israel while voicing strong backing for Iran’s political system. Many highlighted the importance of unity in the face of external pressures and conflicts.
Along the rally route in the capital, a memorial pavilion was set up to honor victims of a reported attack on a school in the southern city of Minab during the early days of the recent conflict. The display served as a reminder of the human toll of the hostilities.
The rallies also featured exhibitions of Iran’s military capabilities, including the domestically developed Kheibarshekan missile and Shahed-136 drone, underscoring the country’s defense readiness.
The demonstrations come weeks after a ceasefire was reached on April 8, following a period of intense confrontation involving missile and drone exchanges between Iran and its adversaries. The large turnout signals a continued effort by the Iranian leadership to project unity and resilience in the aftermath of the conflict.
