Rajasthan Royals Opt to Bat Against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur Clash
Jaipur, May 2026 : The Rajasthan Royals, champions of the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League, won the toss and elected to bat first against the Delhi Capitals in Match 43 of IPL 2026 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Friday.
Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag explained his decision by pointing to the nature of the pitch, which he described as slightly unusual for Jaipur conditions. According to Parag, the surface appeared patchy and unpredictable, making it more suitable to set a target rather than chase. With this in mind, the Royals made a few strategic adjustments to their lineup. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was brought into the playing XI to exploit the conditions, while Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka was named as an impact substitute. Meanwhile, Shubham Dubey retained his place in the starting eleven, signaling the team’s faith in his recent performances.
On the other side, Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel revealed that his team had undergone several changes ahead of the crucial encounter. Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc returned to the lineup, while Sri Lankan batter Pathum Nissanka was also included to strengthen the batting unit. However, the Capitals were forced to leave out a few key players due to injuries and team balance considerations. Dushmantha Chameera missed out, while Sahil was sidelined with a neck spasm. Additionally, experienced batter David Miller was not included in the playing XI as Nissanka filled the fourth overseas slot, paving the way for Ashutosh Sharma’s inclusion.
Axar Patel admitted that he would have preferred to bowl first, citing a recent high-scoring match at the venue where a total of over 230 runs was successfully chased by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite this, he expressed confidence in his team’s ability to restrict Rajasthan Royals on what appeared to be a good batting surface. He emphasized the importance of returning to basics, maintaining focus, and displaying hunger and positive body language as Delhi Capitals aim to revive their campaign in the tournament.
The match features strong lineups from both sides. Delhi Capitals field a combination of experience and youth with players like KL Rahul, Tristan Stubbs, Kuldeep Yadav, and T Natarajan forming the core. Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, boast a dynamic mix including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jofra Archer, alongside captain Riyan Parag.
With both teams making multiple changes and adapting to conditions, the contest at Jaipur promises to be a closely fought battle as the IPL 2026 season intensifies.
