200 Activist Released From Israeli Captivity Bearing Gruesome Injuries.

Crete; May 2026: More than 200 activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla, intercepted by Israeli forces at sea and taken to Crete, were released today early morning, some of them bearing visible signs of torture, including bruises and cuts. Several participants said they were beaten and subjected to physical and psychological abuse in custody.

The flotilla, which was sailing from Barcelona toward Gaza, was intercepted using drones, jamming systems, and armed boarding operations. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said the detainees would be transferred to Greece, while remaining boats reportedly continued sailing with humanitarian aid toward Gaza.

Signs of torture appear on activists Saif Abu Keshek and Thiago Ávila, members of the Global Sumud Flotilla’s steering committee, who were abducted by the Israeli navy in international waters off Greece.

Abu Keshek is a Palestinian Spanish activist. Israel claims he is affiliated with a terrorist organisation, without providing evidence for these allegations. Meanwhile, Ávila is a prominent Brazilian activist who has participated in previous attempts to break the Israeli siege on Gaza.
