“Lotus Blooms in Bengal”: Narendra Modi Hails Bharatiya Janata Party Surge as Historic Mandate
New Delhi, May 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed the emphatic performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the West Bengal Assembly elections, describing it as a triumph of “good governance” over what he termed the regressive rule of the All India Trinamool Congress.
As counting trends placed the BJP firmly in the lead across the state, the Prime Minister took to social media platform X to celebrate the outcome, calling it a defining political moment. “The Lotus blooms in West Bengal! The 2026 Assembly elections will be remembered forever,” he said, underscoring the symbolic significance of the party’s rise in a state long dominated by regional forces.
Modi characterised the verdict as a powerful expression of people’s will, stating that the electorate had endorsed the BJP’s development-oriented governance model. “I bow to each and every person of West Bengal. The people have given a spectacular mandate to BJP, and we will do everything possible to fulfil their dreams and aspirations,” he said, promising a government that ensures opportunity, dignity, and inclusive growth.
The Prime Minister is also expected to visit the BJP headquarters in New Delhi to join party workers in celebrating the victory and to address supporters, acknowledging their role in the party’s electoral success.
Paying tribute to BJP’s grassroots cadre, Modi credited party workers for persevering through years of political challenges and adversity. “They have worked tirelessly on the ground, overcoming all odds while taking our development agenda to the people. They are the backbone of our party,” he noted.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also welcomed the election outcome, framing it as an opportunity to rebuild the state and restore its historical prominence. He reiterated the BJP’s vision of transforming West Bengal into “Sonar Bangla,” invoking the legacy of iconic figures such as Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
“With the trust reposed by the people under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, we will work day and night to fulfil their aspirations and bring back Bengal’s lost glory,” Shah said.
He also took a strong stance against what he described as appeasement politics, asserting that voters had delivered a clear message against divisive practices. Referring to past instances of political violence, Shah paid homage to BJP workers who lost their lives, calling the victory a tribute to their sacrifices.
“This historic mandate is the result of years of struggle, perseverance, and sacrifice by countless party workers. Many endured violence and hardship but never abandoned their commitment,” he said, acknowledging the resilience of party supporters and their families.
The BJP’s strong showing in West Bengal marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, signalling the emergence of a new power dynamic. As the party prepares to translate its electoral gains into governance, the focus now shifts to how it delivers on its promises and reshapes the future trajectory of the state.
