Ahmedabad to Host IPL 2026 Final as BCCI Announces Playoff Schedule

Mumbai, May 2026 : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially unveiled the playoff schedule for the Indian Premier League 2026 season, confirming that the grand finale will take place in Ahmedabad at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium on May 31.

After an intense league phase featuring 70 matches, the tournament now moves into its decisive knockout stage. The playoffs will be played across three venues this year due to logistical considerations, making this season’s format slightly different from the usual tradition.

The action begins with Qualifier 1 on May 26 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. This crucial match will see the top two teams on the points table face off, with the winner earning a direct spot in the final.

The tournament then shifts to the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh, which will host the remaining two playoff matches. The Eliminator, scheduled for May 27, will feature the teams finishing third and fourth in the standings. The loser of this match will be eliminated, while the winner advances further.

Qualifier 2 will be played on May 29 at the same venue, where the loser of Qualifier 1 will take on the winner of the Eliminator. This match will determine the second finalist who will compete for the championship title.

The grand finale is set for May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, widely regarded as the world’s largest cricket stadium. With its massive capacity and electrifying atmosphere, the venue is expected to provide a spectacular setting for the season’s climax.

Originally, the final was scheduled to be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, home ground of defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, the BCCI decided to shift the venue due to certain requirements from local authorities that fell outside its operational guidelines.
