Gadchiroli Airport to Be Developed Under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ Vision

Administrative and financial approval granted for ₹104 crore land acquisition

Nagpur, May 2026 : Under the initiative and vision of Chief Minister and Gadchiroli district guardian minister Devendra Fadnavis, an airport is being developed in Gadchiroli. The Maharashtra government has today granted administrative and financial approval for an expenditure of ₹104 crore 48 lakh 64 thousand 239 for the acquisition of 311.81 hectares of land belonging to government, private and forest departments in Shirapur Chak, Guruwala, Hirapur and Rakhi villages for the development of the proposed airport.

The proposal submitted by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) for land acquisition in Shirapur Chak, Guruwala, Hirapur and Rakhi villages for the proposed Gadchiroli airport was placed before the Empowered Committee chaired by the Chief Secretary of the state. The committee approved the proposal in its meeting held on May 8, 2026. Following this, the General Administration Department issued a government resolution granting administrative and financial approval.

As per the resolution, administrative and financial approval has been granted for an estimated expenditure of ₹76 crore 99 lakh 74 thousand 799 for the acquisition of 245.75 hectares of private land and ₹10 crore 7 lakh 45 thousand 400 for the diversion of 34.68 hectares of forest land, amounting to a total of ₹87 crore 7 lakh 20 thousand 199. The remaining amount includes 3% establishment and 3% facilities cost of the Sub-Divisional Officer under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, 4% establishment cost of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company, and an estimated 10% escalation in project costs.

The government resolution also states that 31.38 hectares of land will be transferred free of cost by the Gadchiroli District Collector to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company. MADC has been appointed as the land acquisition agency and implementing authority for the acquisition of 311.81 hectares of land, and the District Collector, Gadchiroli, has been authorized as the competent authority for land acquisition.

The resolution further cancels the earlier government decision issued on December 13, 2024, which had appointed MADC as the implementing agency and land acquisition authority for acquiring land in villages Murkhala, Pulkhala and Kaneri for the proposed Gadchiroli airport development project.
