Minister Aditi Tatkare Directs Acceleration of Women and Child Development ProjectsBy Team DGIPR – May 12, 2026

Mumbai, May 2026 : Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare has directed that a proposal be submitted to extend the lease period of land belonging to the Children Aid Society in Mankhurd in order to accelerate women and child development projects and facilitate the construction of government offices of the department.

A review meeting was held at the मंत्रालय (Mantralaya) to assess the functioning of various institutions operating on the land of the Children Aid Society in Chembur and to discuss redevelopment-related issues. The meeting was attended by Women and Child Development Commissioner Madhavi Sardeshmukh, Additional Collector Padmakar Rokde, and senior officials from SRA, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department, Women and Child Development Department, and representatives of the Children Aid Society.

Minister Aditi Tatkare stated that the organisation operates under the Juvenile Justice system and runs multiple child care institutions in Mumbai city and suburbs, including children’s homes, observation homes, industrial schools, homes for differently-abled children, and educational institutions. She stressed the need to upgrade these buildings with modern facilities and to undertake redevelopment of certain structures where required.

She further directed that necessary action be taken to renew the land lease and to grant permission for the implementation of new child development projects on the site.

The Minister emphasised that the objective is to ensure better infrastructure, improved care facilities, and more effective implementation of welfare schemes for children and women under the department.
