US Army Has Confirmed The Military Deployment In Poland.

Washington DC: May 2026: U.S. Army Chief of Staff General Christopher Laniv has confirmed the cancellation of the deployment to Poland of the 02nd Armoured Brigade Combat Team of the U.S. 1st Cavalry Division, numbering 4,000 troops.

Christopher Laniv replaced Randy George in this position after George was dismissed in April, which caused a conflict between Army Secretary Dan Driscoll and Pete Hegseth, following which Secretary Driscoll had supported the dismissed George.

Laniv said that the Pentagon had issued instructions to reduce troop numbers in Europe, and together with NATO’s command in Europe they determined that the most optimal decision would be to cancel the previously planned brigade deployment, rather than withdraw units that are already deployed.

As a reminder, US Congress had prohibited the White House, and President Trump have signed this into law, from reducing the U.S. presence in Europe below 76,000 troops for more than 45 days. So, this is already the third American unit affected by Trump’s decision to reduce troop numbers in Europe. And for the first time, this has affected Poland.

The full list:

  • 02nd Cavalry Regiment, V Corps; 5,000 troops; planned withdrawal from Grafenwöhr, Germany;
  • An unnamed long-range fires battalion armed with Tomahawks; deployment to Germany cancelled;
  • 02nd Armoured Brigade Combat Team, 01st Cavalry Division; 4,000 troops; deployment to Poland cancelled.

The decision to cancel the deployment of 4,000 troops to Poland, just like the earlier decision to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany, was made spontaneously, as per DoW release.

Many of the service members have already packed their bags and were preparing to head to the airport. The brigade’s equipment was already in European ports, awaiting deployment. Around 10,000 American troops are currently deployed in Poland.

What is mention-worthy is the fact that Poland President Karol Nawrocki’s excellent relationship with the US President Donald Trump did not help. Moreover, Poland’s highest defence spending among all NATO members, approximately 4.7% of GDP was not considered before pulling off the US Force. Finally, Poland had no conflicts with Trump over Iran.

As per international defence experts, Europe needs to prepare for the fact that it may have to defend itself against Russia without US help. It can only count on itself.

Team Maverick.
