Mizoram Governor Leads Joint Celebration of Foundation Days of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Sikkim and Goa

Aizawl May, 2026: Under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd) today hosted a celebration to mark the Foundation Days of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Sikkim and Goa at the Durbar Hall, Lok Bhavan in Aizawl.

In his address, Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd) spoke about the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He said the programme is regularly observed at Lok Bhavan and Lok Niwas to promote national integration. The Governor noted that India is a land of immense diversity and that even a single state contains a wide variety of cultures, traditions and lifestyles.

The Governor described diversity as the country’s unique strength and a source of national unity and pride. “Each part of our country has its own unique beauty,” he added. The Governor commended the cultural performances presented during the event and congratulated all those involved for contributing to its success. He expressed hope that such programmes would help foster greater understanding and appreciation of India’s rich cultural heritage.

The event featured messages from Gujarat Governor Shri Acharya Devvrat, Maharashtra Governor Shri Jishnu Dev Varma, Sikkim Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur and Goa Governor Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju. It also included informative and visually captivating short videos showcasing the cultural heritage and scenic landscapes of the respective states. Students from the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Government Mizo Higher Secondary School enthralled the audience with their vibrant and impressive cultural performances, adding colour and energy to the programme. Following the main event, the Governor hosted the participants for a cordial gathering and refreshments at the Upper Lawn of Lok Bhavan.

Gujarat and Maharashtra attained statehood on 1st May 1960. Sikkim became a full-fledged state on 16th May 1975, while Goa achieved statehood on 30th May 1987.
